About the module
This module introduces the theory and practice of particle and radiation detectors, essential instruments for exploring the subatomic world, with particular emphasis on scintillation detectors. In addition to understanding how the detectors operate, participants will measure the flux and lifetime of muons from cosmic radiation.
Syllabus
- Physical processes involved in particle–matter interactions.
- Fast electronics.
- Cosmic rays.
- Scintillators and other particle-detection methods.
- Measurement of the flux and lifetime of cosmic-ray muons.
